Insênicos is a theater group founded in 2010 in Salvador, Bahia, that works at the intersection between art-culture and mental health. The group is composed of actors who have faced the stigma of mental illness and was formed from a theater workshop called ‘Em Cena Insanity.’
The project was developed by theatrical director and psychologist Renata Berenstein in partnership with the Associação Metamorfose Ambulante (AMEA) and benefits 20 actors who attend the Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS). The group has developed a unique artistic language and has already performed five shows in its repertoire, as well as more than 200 presentations at academic events, congresses and seminars. Its accomplishments have positioned it as an important collective in the fight for a fairer society without asylums.
