Natureventyr (translates to Nature Adventures) is a Danish app that allows children to experience nature in new and imaginative ways. The App guides children ages 4-9 and families, through routes in in nature with the GPS in your phone and creates playful fantasy stories that are uniquely connected to the specific geographical place, and fills it with trolls, dragons, and tree giants. For example, Svannige Bakker in Faaborg becomes the Dragon’s Valley, and children can search for, and find, a hollow tree, that becomes the magical passage to an extravagant fox home. Children and families follow the routes set by the app chapter by chapter. They are involved in the adventures though questions and tasks that connect to the stories. These stories and fairytales originate in the geography, nature, biodiversity, culture and history and the places, and seeks to educate both children and adults about the nature and history of the area. The results are nature walks that are filled with play, adventure, imagination, and movement, and connects children to nature in a new and involving ways. Children belong in nature and fantasy and play is a great way of motivating nature experiences. There are currently more than 180 different adventures to choose from, and there are routes all around Denmark. The app also collaborates with the Danish nature fund and donates 1 crown towards nature preservation for each completed adventure.
