Institut for Børnekultur – Anne Bamford

In May 2023 Professor Anne Bamford OBE, the Strategic Director of Education, Culture and Skills for the City of London visited Institut for Børnekultur in Viborg. She has done great research in the important role of qualified art and culture in primary education – for the children and for the professionals.

We had a talk about her view on the characteristics of arts education in the Danish school system based on a research and review from 2006, The Ildsjæl in the Classroom – A review on Danish Arts Education in the Folkeskole (public school). We talked about the weaknesses and strengths and the differences from then to today. We also asked Anne what she thinks is important in terms of giving higher priority to arts education in the school curricula at political level. sideviews – Eva Stein

Eva Stein is curator for Education at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.

She studied German and Journalism at FU Berlin, worked first as a freelance journalist and then as an internet editor at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. In 2017 – 2021, she was project director of Schools of Tomorrow 1-3, which explored how school learning today can prepare for the present and the future.

The Schools of Sustainability 1 & 2 (2021-2024) projects she initiated explore whether artistic approaches can provide impetus for a climate-future-ready school.

sideviews – Shadowmuseum

The Shadow Museum Youth Committee (Schattenmuseum) consists of 13 young people between the ages of 11 and 21. It was founded in 2018 after several years of collaboration with the Jewish Museum Berlin.

In this podcast, we talk to Anna Zieler about VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies), a simple but powerful method of accessing artworks through dialogue.

Together with sideviews e.V., the young people further develop their experiences in various art institutions, currently in the House of the Cultures of the World (HKW). On the basis of artistic formats, they advise the institutions on issues concerning their suitability for young people. The youth committee meets weekly and in holiday workshops.

PLATO – Education Turn

In this episode of the Shaping Patterns podcast, PLATO focuses on a brief introduction to the phenomenon of Education Turn within the field of fine arts and its potential in relation to sustainability issues.

The episode also conveys the views and comments of two individuals working in both education and the arts specifically. They are music producer, publicist, cultural activist and educator Mary C and literary critic, education methodologist and teacher Martin Tomanek.

PLATO – Education and sustainability

In this episode from PLATO, we went directly to those most affected by education – children and adolescents.

On the Spodní street between the Fifejdy estate and the Jirská Osada, we talked to local children about school, education and sustainability. They were interviewed by artist and civic activist Kateřina Holá.

The podcast of Yellow Brick is a series of interviews about art and sustainability with children, teenagers and professionals who work in the field of art, education and mental health.
