The Beit project
A nomadic school in the heart of the city

Launched in Paris 2011, the Beit project is a European and Mediterranean project about living together, transforming heritage sites all over Europe into tools for education toward diversity and tolerance and the fight against racism, social exclusion and discrimination. The cultural relevance is defined by and a product of participants engaging in evocative activities that builds personal attachments to heritage, questioning on the relationship with others in yesterday’ s and today’s society, perceiving the difference as an essential asset.

Beit is the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet and the number 2, but also the house, the home. Pupils from different contexts take ownership of the site and begin to look carefully on all historical traces they might find. They slowly discover the story of the place and connect it with their own experience issues like discrimination, racism or solidarity. They debate about it with their fellows and later with people in the street, on the spot.
